Greenpoint Toxics - - - - - - Home

The US EPA tracks (or attempts to track) several intensities of pollution.

The most dangerous polluting chemicals are covered by the Toxics Release Inventory, where companies using these chemicals report annually on how much of each of these chemicals they use, release to the environment and transfer offsite to other facilities. For Greenpoint, the EPA lists 8 sites.

Most recent data is from 2002

The EPA also regulates another 195 businesses in Greenpoint. They either use toxic or hazardous chemicals, release them into the air/water or are otherwise obligated to report to the EPA. To view their locations and learn more about them, click here.

I have entered and mapped the information about these businesses from information recently obtained from the EPA’s website. After spending a few afternoons “ground truthing” these sites, I’ve found quite a few businesses (30%+) that appear to have moved or gone out of business. It seems a bit bizarre and makes me seriously question the EPA’s understanding of the real Toxics/Pollution situation in Greenpoint (as well as the rest of the country). Especially strange is the case of Interflo Technologies. According to the Pratt University’s recent study on Greenpoint, Interflo is the major employer in Greenpoint, but visits to both their ‘sites’ revealed no activity, no signs, except for the name of another company operating out of the 393 McGuiness site.

If you can add any clarity to the situation please don't hesitate to educate me by email Bill Ragette
